Tyreek Hill reports ‘no power’ in injured leg nearly 10 months after surgery

Tyreek Hill Details Recovery Process
Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has indicated he still lacks power in his left leg, nearly 10 months after sustaining a significant knee injury. Hill, who was released by the Dolphins in February, underwent two surgeries following the injury that occurred during a September 29 Monday night game against the New York Jets.
In a video shared on social media Wednesday, Hill provided updates on his rehabilitation. He stated, “I have no power in my left leg at all. So I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg.” The injury, which involved a knee dislocation, occurred when his leg turned improperly after a tackle along the sideline at Hard Rock Stadium.
The 32-year-old veteran’s recovery journey has been extensive. Doctors had expressed uncertainty about his future mobility. Hill recounted, “You know they told me you might not be able to walk again. The doctors were like, ‘Bro, we don’t know what’s going to happen with your future.’ And now look at me.”
Despite the challenges, Hill has expressed satisfaction with his rehabilitation progress. The video showed him performing various workouts, including explosive jumps in a pool and pushing off the injured leg. While he acknowledged his lower-body power is deficient, these exercises demonstrated some existing strength.
Rehab Progress and Future Outlook
Hill’s injury involved multiple ligament damage in his left knee, including his ACL. He was hospitalized overnight after the September 29 incident and underwent surgery the following day. An LCL surgery was also performed in February.
The video, part of a mini-documentary series titled “Cheetah, Reborn” on his YouTube channel, is the third episode detailing his recovery. It captured Hill running, though not at his full speed, and showed instinctive explosiveness that is not yet at the level required for NFL competition.
Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowler, has not provided a specific timeline for his return to play. He mentioned, “I ain’t going to tell you what my timeline is, but timeline looking real good right now, man.” This aligns with previous statements from his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who indicated the goal was for Hill to regain fitness before considering a new team.
As NFL training camps commence, with rookies already at team facilities and veterans reporting soon, Hill remains a free agent. The Dolphins’ first training camp practice is scheduled for Wednesday. While Hill does not appear ready to join a team during camp, continued progress in his rehabilitation could position him as a potential midseason addition for a team seeking a wide receiver.

Hill’s career includes six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was a three-time first-team All-Pro and contributed to a Super Bowl title. Following the 2021 season, he was traded to the Dolphins. In 2023, he led the league in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the eighth consecutive season, from 2016 through 2023.
The former Dolphins star, who had one year remaining on his contract when released, is focused on regaining his explosive abilities. He stated his aim is to ensure “whenever I step back on the field, it’s like none of it’s missing.”
