The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the L.A. Clippers with a score of 99-85 in an NBA Summer League game held on Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. This victory marked the Lakers’ third consecutive win in Las Vegas and their fifth straight overall this summer, maintaining their undefeated status in the tournament.

Cameron Carr, a former Vol, started for the Lakers and was the leading scorer in the game with 23 points. He achieved this by converting 8-of-18 field goal attempts, including 3-of-10 from beyond the arc, and making 3-of-5 free throw attempts. In his 29 minutes on the court, Carr also contributed one rebound, two assists, and one block.

Carr’s Performance and Background

Carr’s return to the lineup was notable, as he had missed the previous game due to a thumb injury. His performance against the Clippers included a strong start to the second quarter with back-to-back buckets, helping the Lakers establish a double-digit lead. He also completed a three-point play on a drive to the basket and hit another deep three-pointer in the third quarter, scoring eight points in that frame alone. His display showcased his two-way potential, which could potentially earn him rotation minutes in the upcoming season.

Carr was selected by New York as the No. 24 pick during the first round of the NBA draft in 2026 before being traded to Los Angeles. His collegiate career began with the Vols, where he played from 2023-25. As a freshman during the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 14 games, with six starts, accumulating 23 points and seven assists in 60 minutes of play. He averaged 1.6 points per game during his freshman year.

During the 2024-25 season, Carr played in four games for the Vols before sustaining a thumb injury and subsequently transferring to Baylor. He then played for Baylor during the 2025-26 season, where he was recognized as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the third-team All-Big 12. At Baylor, he averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Lakers’ Dominance and Supporting Players

The Lakers’ victory over the Clippers was a dominant one, with the team taking a 54-38 lead into halftime. Despite a 12-2 run by the Clippers at the start of the third quarter, the Lakers regained control, ending the quarter with a 76-58 lead. The game remained competitive in the second half, but the Lakers ultimately secured the win.

Several other Lakers players also delivered strong performances. Chris Mañon contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds, starting strong with 10 first-quarter points and showcasing his two-way play. Arthur Kaluma, coming off the bench, scored 15 points in 23 minutes, connecting on 4-of-7 shots from the field and burying three three-pointers. Adou Thiero added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block, shooting 5-of-6 from the field.
