Joey Logano claimed victory in the Window World 450 NASCAR Cup Series race at North Wilkesboro Speedway on July 19. This marks his first win of the season. Logano led for 323 of the 450 laps in his No. 22 Team Penske Ford, a performance he described as a smooth race execution.
The win allowed Logano to re-enter the top 16 in the points standings. He acknowledged the pressure leading up to the race, stating that securing points was crucial. Logano attributed his success at North Wilkesboro to understanding the track and the car prepared by Paul Wolfe.
Driver Reactions to the Race
Denny Hamlin, who finished second in the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, commended Logano’s driving. Hamlin noted that while his own car was close to optimal, Logano maintained speed throughout both short and long runs. Hamlin expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, considering it a significant improvement from the previous year.
Chase Briscoe, driving the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, secured third place. He described his car as phenomenal and believed they were capable of winning, despite losing some pace on the final run. Briscoe highlighted the car’s exceptional performance over long runs and its ability to navigate through traffic effectively.
Ty Gibbs, in the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, finished fourth. He expressed frustration with the race conditions but appreciated his team’s efforts. Shane van Gisbergen, piloting the No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, took fifth place. He was excited to lead at one point and managed to earn stage points in both stages, despite a minor error in the first stage.
Bubba Wallace, driving the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota, finished sixth. He was pleased with his team’s clean race and consistent performance, which he believes positions them well for the upcoming race at Brickyard. Wallace emphasized the importance of clean races for securing a spot in the Chase and competing for a championship.
Brad Keselowski, in the No. 6 RFK Racing Ford, secured seventh place. He noted that while his car wasn’t the fastest, strong execution, good strategy from Jeremy Bullins, and solid pit stops contributed to a top-10 finish and some stage points. Keselowski mentioned the team’s need to rebound from a challenging two-month period where they dropped in points.
Todd Gilliland, driving the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford, finished eighth. He was content with his team’s performance and the short track package they utilized, which he hopes will be effective in future races. Gilliland praised the team’s strategy, particularly their short pitting, which he felt was executed effectively throughout the race.

Several drivers are looking forward to upcoming races. Briscoe is anticipating the race in Indy next week, aiming for another strong performance. Wallace also expressed excitement for the Brickyard race, citing confidence and momentum within his team. Keselowski believes that short tracks and superspeedways offer the best opportunities for Fords, and his team plans to capitalize on these races to improve their standing.
The race at North Wilkesboro was the first points-paying Cup race at the venue since September 1996.
